the year of the woman: for real this time?

19 Aug

It was supposed to be the “Year of the Woman” in 2010.  But it wasn’t.  Despite more women candidates running for office, few of them were able to emerge from their primaries and, as a result, the mid-term elections left the United

States with fewer female lawmakers than it had before Election Day.

But not this year.  It’s a new record for female candidates – candidates who will be on the November ballots in House races all over the country.  This year at least 154 women will contest House elections (with the possibility of more once all of the remaining primaries have been concluded)  This shatters the old record of 141 women in the 2004 cycle.
