I know this is kind of last minute guys but I just looked at my email and THIS would be something nice for people to go to if they have time. FYI, this is exactly from my email:
On Wednesday, October 3rd, and Thursday, October 4th, Panhellenic Council will be hosting a viewing party of the documentary Half the Sky, which airs on PBS October 1st and 2nd. Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide is a book written by journalists Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn which chronicles the experiences and struggles of women throughout Africa and Asia and how the solution to economic progress is to educate women therefore unlocking their full potential.
Circle of Sisterhood was created in 2010 as an effort to engage sorority women on college campuses across the country in supporting this worthy cause. Last year, Panhellenic Council on Ball State’s campus adopted Circle of Sisterhood as their official philanthropy, and since then have continued to work to raise awareness and funds. When the opportunity to host a viewing party of Half the Sky became available, these women jumped at the chance to continue and educate the Ball State community.
The documentary totals four hours in length and will be presented over a two-night time span. The first half will be shown on October 3rd in Pruis Hall from 7-9 p.m., and the second half will be shown on October 4th in the Student Center Ballroom, also from 7-9 p.m. While there will be a few opportunities for fundraising, the primary goal of this event is to continue to raise awareness. We also hope to engage in discussion about how we can continue to advocate for and support this movement. We sincerely hope that you will join us in this event and help us continue to spread the message.
For more information about both of these organizations, you can visit their websites, www.halftheskymovement.org andwww.circleofsisterhood.org. Attached you will also find our Half the Sky flyer with all of the information about the viewing.
