Muslim Brotherhood trains women for parliament

30 Oct

The Muslim Brotherhood political party in Cairo is training women to help them gain more seats in parliament. Currently there are only 5 women out of 213 in Egypt’s parliament. Some people believe that this is a great thing and others think that the Brotherhood is only doing it to make themselves look good. With the stereotype about women and Muslims, what does everyone think of this?

Although the stereotype with Muslims and women isn’t particularly a good one, this may be a good way to get the door open for more equality. If the Muslim Brotherhood is just doing this to make themselves look good I don’t think that really matters. The fact that more women would be involved in Egypt’s government is a wonderful thing.

This is great. Even if they are doing it to make themselves look good, it’s still helping women. Sure it might not go over well in actual elections but it’s a step in the right direction.

I agree. Even if the Brotherhood is trying to make themselves look better, they are helping women gain more power in their government. I think that is a wonderful thing.
