Disney taught girls bad lessons

9 Dec

Living in a fairy tale isn’t going to get you anywhere but your dream. I loved watching Disney movies when I was younger and even today but watching them now when I’m older I realize how unrealistic some of these stories are and I have to wonder if I want to have my kids watching these movies. I know that some of the movies like Snow White and Cinderella were made later in time where the stories weren’t that far off of how women were viewed but for young girls of today im sad to say the Disney classics may not be the appropriate choice.

Some examples from the article (its pretty interesting you should take a look at):

The Supposed Message:

Treat others the way you wish to be treated!

The Actual Message:

Underneath the abusive exterior of your man is a loving heart he’s just dying to share with you.

First of all, Belle was a prisoner in the Beast’s castle. Nothing says “I love you” like house arrest. Secondly, he wasn’t exactly whispering sweet nothings in her ear. The Beast hurled insults at Belle at every chance, and came close to pimp slapping the crap out of her on more than one occasion.

Being a Woman is GREAT for the three out of the four weeks of the month

I love being a women, especially at work. I supervise the rec center at Ball State and bartend the weekends so not only do both those jobs ask for me to be in the spot light but im also respected by men in different ways. At school I’m respected for obviously working while going to school and the position I hold at my job, shockingly you need to know what youre doing while supervising a multi-million dollar facility. That’s a given job of respect but some think its shocking im respected as a bartender but its there where guys appreciate a girl who can remember a drink, know the prices without second guessing, and go to school while working late hours. Women now a days have so many female figures to look up to and so many popular movies that are pro women rights like She’s the Man and A League of Their Own and more and more women are getting into the political spotlight that is steering young girls in the right direction… why wouldnt any girl of today not want to be a woman one day and then I remember

Girls Just Wanna Have Funds

9 Dec

Hot topic of class was women get degraded when they say they want to marry off rich but when guys do it its look at as “scoring.” What I was trying to say in class was yes I see where the majority of the class is coming from when they say it is degrading to women but instead of women tearing down other women I think that we should be turning to the men and look at them for the judgmental views. It is the men who know they are marrying a women who is marrying them for the money and it is the men who are also glorified if they have the Sugar Mama… I don’t think it degrading to women if another women says she wants to marry a rich man. I don’t think an educated man thinks women as a whole are sluts when he hears a comment like that or a girl in a mini skirt, not one girl represents women as a whole. It is the poor sucker that should be worried about having their spouse only marry for the money and should be left for them to work out not everyone else since it isn’t affecting them personally besides the fact it bothers them. They don’t represent women as a whole, they aren’t keeping you from your dreams, and they aren’t keeping you from an education, in fact I look at it as that is one less girl I have to compete with because obviously she won’t be going to far with a mind set like that.ImageImage

For the daughters & sons

For the daughters & sons

One day I hope I can be the mom who can lead her daughters in the right direction and respect her body and her mind and to not be fooled by the silly boys because I feel like what I did is high school is what girls are doing in middle school now… so does this mean by the time I have kids that sex is going to be brought up as a norm is grade school life?… (A tad exaggerated I know but its scary to think about how young people are doing things like that now) I just hope I can teach from my mistakes and if I were to have boys to teach them how to truly and honestly respect a girl and want a women in their life not just a toy to play with.. but even with something with such a good message as this it pisses me off that their is so much to do to build a girls confidence and so little a boy needs to do to respect a girl (there’s a paragraph for the girl and one sentence for the guy)

Megan Fox Tweet

Megan Fox Tweet

I’m completely surprised that Megan Fox would be the one to say something like this about virginity. Megan Fox to me seems like a reckless self-indulged wild crazy girl that didn’t care if she could lose her virginity even if it was at 14yrs old. Even though I don’t know her as well as friends and family do Megan Fox seems like this type of person to the public and though she does make some pretty bold comments for her to tweet this with as many followers as she has is courageous in my eyes. I completely agree with her statement because growing up in Illinois outside of Chicago losing your virginity wasn’t looked at as something to save till marriage it was more like I need to find a boyfriend that is cute and I can lose it with him. It even became more and more rare as high school went on to know someone who was still a virgin and if they were a virgin and people knew about it was used as a punch line or a way to deflect a guys attention with talking to her… (“oh well she’s a virgin..”) Im happy that someone like Megan Fox posted this on twitter but im shocked because sadly I feel that same way about society today

Why Men Love Bitches

I read this book when I was a Sophomore in college and I wish I had read it years before then. The word “bitch” is not a word to degrade women but to show a sense of empowerment. I know that our class is filled with proud driven women that don’t really need a book of self-insurance but it really is a great book to read and I recommended it for my younger sisters to read because I think it was a really good book that explains you can be sexy and not be a slut or that you can talk with boys yet still have a sense of pride and empowerment. I know that now a day it is blow up all over the tabloids for women to be sexy and eye candy for men but how can you do that and not be labled a slut… This is why I love this book because I feel like girls feel that you cant be respected without looking like a “feminist” “bitch” like Sandra Bullock is portrayed in the beginning of the movie The Proposal, you can be in control and you can be sexy and be respected which I find is hard to balance or come across now a days.

Vicky’s Secret Fashion Show Is For The Women?

9 Dec

I’d admit I totally hate it when the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show comes around because it makes me feel self conscious about myself and I think that goes for a bunch of other girls as well. Even when I’m totally judging every model in anyway to makes myself feel better I still can stop watching the show and the comments on Facebook don’t help anyone’s self-esteem especially the women when the guys drool over the models in glamorous underwear.. but this article says that the show does direct itself to the women not just to the men and want to keep their women viewers satisfied. The article talks about the male fantasy of a fallen angel with the perfect body sexy underwear wear models here on Earth the show is actually trying to capture in on women’s ability to feel sexy even under their clothes and feel confident in them.
