Forbes Most Powerful Women 2012

Looks aren’t everything, not only are these women beautiful but for the second year running, three of the top five women on Forbes list of the World’s 100 Most Powerful Women are politicians. Love this [What does this say about the changing dynamic of women in politics around the world? In the words of former Secretary of State Madeline Albright, a little something like this: “People say there are not enough qualified women, that’s one of the biggest bullshit things I’ve ever heard.”] Just looking at the top 10 6 women are from the United States with Hilary Clinton in 2nd place behind German Chancellor and Michelle Obama in 7th spot. Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez are some of the celebrity stars on the list Lady Gaga also being the youngest at 26. The age range is a wild range between 26 with Lady Gaga to the Queen of England, Queen Elizabeth II, at 86 years old.

Women in Politics Break Records in 2012

Women in Politics Break Records in 2012

“The 113th Congress will have at least 20 female senators, the most ever in U.S. history. These women include Democrats Elizabeth Warren, Tammy Baldwin, and Mazie Hirono, who all are the first female Senators from their states. Baldwin is the first openly gay Senator-elect, and Hirono is the first Asian-American woman in the Senate.” Not only is that impressive but this will be the first time that white men will no longer be the majority in the Democratic caucus. This is so amazing and unbelievable to see how far women have gone and over come the stereotypical man dominated caucus’ this is the most inspiring article I have read this year about women in power. “EMILY’s List, a progressive organization that works to recruit and elect Democratic women to Congress, raised a record-breaking $51.2 million this election cycle and quintupled its membership to 2 million. The group attributed its many victories to a backlash against Republican efforts to dismiss women’s issues and limit women’s reproductive rights.”

Google Search: young teens

It’s said that the first things that pop up on google when finding articles about teens now a days are all girl related and sexually explicit. It so important to teach young girls about respecting their bodies and with google working on hits that determines what shows up first on newsfeeds that its sad to see where young girls are viewed in todays interest with society

Who Runs The World?

40 ways Beyonce ran the world. Beyonce is such a good role model for women of all colors she taught us sisterhood and the importance of friendship with Destiny’s Child, the importance family, religion, respect for you body when everyone was dressing like Britney with belly button shirts she stayed conservative and went with sending the message with words not body parts, she became successful and powerful before her husband, and she shows us that even when starting at the bottom if you set your mind to it you can accomplish anything and RUN THE WORLD

Buckwild… really MTV?

Buckwild… really MTV?

The previews for Buckwild a show coming to MTV not only makes us look like total morons but embarrassing to our country that we publicize people with this behavior. I fully stand behind Senator Manchin in cancelling the show before airing because it makes not only the state of West Virginia look like a bunch of uneducated rednecks but demeans the people of the country it belongs to. The guys in the show not only look like typical rednecks but the girls are shown mud wrestling, chucking beer cans at each other, wearing little clothing, and speak in poor english that it’s hard to respect and not to judge these women giving them little to no respect.

12 Things You Didnt Know About Mean Girls

12 Things You Didnt Know About Mean Girls

“Lindsay Lohan’s character is named “Cady”, which has a common pronunciation (“Katie”) but an uncommon spelling for an American girl’s first name. In keeping with the film’s theme of female empowerment, it is the same spelling of the birth last name of Elizabeth Cady Stanton, an 18th-century pioneer in the American Women’s Rights movement.”

Love it! I had no idea that the movie Mean Girls was naming the character “Cady” after one of the most important woman of history. Even though this movie speaks a lot of truth about girls I really like the message it captures that may not be seen by young viewers who only see pretty popular looking girls who turn for the good but in the end its better to use your talents for good not evil which the last couple minutes of the movie capture and leaves a great message for young girls.

Rape is Rape

Rape is Rape

I hate trying to justify rape or picture rape as black or white. You either you liked it or you didn’t. You are not the victim nor does a matter like this need to be publicized over campus because of a student basketball player is involved. It’s upsetting that girls still face problems like this even with society coming a long way from a past view rape as black and white. Right away people were taking the side of the basketball player just because she admitted to going along with it. In a situation of fear the body tends to freeze and the mind tends to try and block out painful memories which is why it is hard for someone who does not know her raper to describe what he looks like to police as I learn in a few of my psych classes. When one does not enjoy the act the two are committing and it has especially been addressed for them to know that the other is not enjoying it or had no intention to have sexual contact it is a violation and should be treated as one. The public is letting the rich and famous get away with murder and rape on a daily basis and is sending a terrible message to the young people and teenage girls entering into the life of college where dreams are to be created and accomplished not destroyed

College Gossip

College Gossip

Ball State had something like this link before I came to school hear and I heard about it my freshman year and reading about this experience this girl had about a similar link at her school I’m glad that website got shut down because bullying has increased and has gone farther then it even has before. A college student was being gossiped about online which is common thing that girls do towards other girls, tear down their self-esteem for them to feel better about their decisions, and it quickly spiraled out of control like most instances similar to this often do. It starts with being called a slut, then a whore, then man-eater, STDs, and so on much like the movie Easy A describes except that was high school and this is college where you’re part of the real world and where a rumor such as “sleeping with your teachers” can affect your life let alone reputation.

Who’s Kasandra Perkins?

Who’s Kasandra Perkins?

Many would have the same question of who is Kasandra Perkins but would know her famous NFL boyfriend and father of newborn girl, Jovan Belcher. Even before I read the article I heard about the tragedy murder of NFL players girlfriend and that all that was said, no name, not even background story of the young female who had her life taken from her. Just when women are respected with strong women figures like Michelle Obama the media shuts it down when a famous man is also associated with the incident. Instead of being treated like a murder and suicide case leaving a child orphan it turns into a honored remembrance of the beloved player and the crimes he committed are overlooked.
