Im so glad the Harry Potter books have such strong lead women in the books like Ginny and Hermine I barely say a ditzy girl that got her way to the top by being flashy and sleeping around… you go girls of Hogwarts
The Mindy Project is a new show that aired on Fox this fall. I was first inclined to watch it because it stars Mindy Kaling, who used to be a cast member and writer for one of my favorite shows, The Office. I think this show is my nominee for best new comedy this season. It is about Mindy, an OBGYN, and her relationships with the people she works with, is friends with, and her dating mishaps. It is set up like a zany rom-com, and this is why I think I like it so much. Mindy is a ridiculous character, who doesn’t really seem to care what others think. The show is very funny, and I think those who like New Girl will really like it as well.
One day I hope I can be the mom who can lead her daughters in the right direction and respect her body and her mind and to not be fooled by the silly boys because I feel like what I did is high school is what girls are doing in middle school now… so does this mean by the time I have kids that sex is going to be brought up as a norm is grade school life?… (A tad exaggerated I know but its scary to think about how young people are doing things like that now) I just hope I can teach from my mistakes and if I were to have boys to teach them how to truly and honestly respect a girl and want a women in their life not just a toy to play with.. but even with something with such a good message as this it pisses me off that their is so much to do to build a girls confidence and so little a boy needs to do to respect a girl (there’s a paragraph for the girl and one sentence for the guy)
I’m completely surprised that Megan Fox would be the one to say something like this about virginity. Megan Fox to me seems like a reckless self-indulged wild crazy girl that didn’t care if she could lose her virginity even if it was at 14yrs old. Even though I don’t know her as well as friends and family do Megan Fox seems like this type of person to the public and though she does make some pretty bold comments for her to tweet this with as many followers as she has is courageous in my eyes. I completely agree with her statement because growing up in Illinois outside of Chicago losing your virginity wasn’t looked at as something to save till marriage it was more like I need to find a boyfriend that is cute and I can lose it with him. It even became more and more rare as high school went on to know someone who was still a virgin and if they were a virgin and people knew about it was used as a punch line or a way to deflect a guys attention with talking to her… (“oh well she’s a virgin..”) Im happy that someone like Megan Fox posted this on twitter but im shocked because sadly I feel that same way about society today
It’s said that the first things that pop up on google when finding articles about teens now a days are all girl related and sexually explicit. It so important to teach young girls about respecting their bodies and with google working on hits that determines what shows up first on newsfeeds that its sad to see where young girls are viewed in todays interest with society
Exciting news! Ball State will be showing Miss Representation and hosting a discussion with its director, writer and producer Jennifer Siebel Newsom. The event is not until February 6, but I’m still looking forward to it already! Miss Representation changed my entire outlook on modern-day feminism, and I hope other people will see women and how they are portrayed in a different way as well. I am looking forward to hearing what she has to say. I will definitely watch Miss Representation again too!
